This guide is not a shopping list, recovery protocol, treatment plan, or product recommendation. It is a way to slow the purchase down long enough to separate ordinary soreness language from warning-sign language, marketing claims from evidence, and private health context from data you do not need to hand to every app, site, wearable, or social platform.
Start With The Demand
Before evaluating any product page, write down the demand in plain terms:
- "I am sore after training."
- "I keep getting the same ache when I play."
- "My lifts have stalled and I want a fix."
- "I saw a recovery stack and feel underprepared."
- "I want something that helps me decide what matters before I buy."
That last line is the most useful one. A kit can package objects. It cannot decide whether pain is ordinary soreness, an overuse pattern, an injury signal, a medication issue, or something that belongs with a clinician.

The goal is not to memorize regulatory language. The goal is to notice when "supports recovery" becomes "solves the thing you are worried about."
If It Is A Device Or App, Check Intended Use
A recovery device or app may cross into FDA medical device territory depending on intended use, including whether it is intended for diagnosis, cure, mitigation, treatment, or prevention of disease, or intended to affect the structure or function of the body. [7]
That does not mean every wearable, app, massage tool, wrap, or gadget is a medical device. It means the intended use matters. The same object can feel more or less medical depending on the claim wrapped around it.
Ask:
- Does the product claim to diagnose, treat, mitigate, prevent, or cure anything?
- Does it claim to change body structure or function?
- Does it tell you what is wrong, or does it merely display information?
- Does the seller explain what the product is and is not intended to do?
- Does the copy blur comfort, performance, injury, and medical language into one promise?
If a product is framed as a way to avoid uncertainty, slow down and look at its intended use and evidence. A device can generate numbers. It cannot replace a clinician's evaluation when symptoms belong in care. [7][8]
Check The Creator Stack

- Is there a clear disclosure near the recommendation?
- Is the creator paid, given free products, using affiliate links, employed by the brand, or otherwise connected?
- Is the content showing a personal routine or implying a typical result for buyers?
- Is the evidence stronger than "this is what I use"?
- Are multiple products being bundled into one implied promise?
A creator can like a product. That does not turn a stack into evidence.
Treat Privacy As Part Of The Kit
If a recovery kit includes apps, connected devices, wearable integrations, or quizzes that ask about sleep, activity, heart rate, soreness, habits, or other health-adjacent information, treat privacy as part of the product. Apps and connected devices that track fitness, activity, sleep, heart rate, or similar health information raise privacy and security questions.
